Interchangeable Parts

An important part of manufacturing during the Industrial Revolution was the creation and implementation of interchangeable parts.  These were components that were identical to one another and could be swapped out for one another.  These parts make production faster and it was possible for less-skilled workers to perform jobs.  These parts could also be mass-produced at low costs with a small number of workers, which saved both time and money.  The automobile industry benefited greatly from the interchangeable parts system, as did many industries and production facilities.  These parts could be used on a variety of machines and did not have to be custom made for their respective applications.
